Modern casinos run on paper tickets as much as cash. A few simple habits keep your money where it belongs.
How tickets work
When you cash out, the machine prints a ticket, often called TITO (ticket in, ticket out). You can play it in another machine or cash it at a kiosk or the cashier's cage.
Tickets can expire. The expiry date or period is usually printed on the ticket, so cash out before you leave town.
Never leave a ticket behind
A ticket is cash to whoever holds it. Take it every time you cash out, and check the tray before you walk away.
If you lose one, report it to security quickly. Casinos can sometimes trace a ticket, but there's no guarantee.
Carrying money
- Bring only what you plan to play, split into session amounts
- Keep the rest locked in your room safe
- Use the cage for large amounts rather than walking around with big stacks
- Be careful with ATMs on the casino floor; fees can be high
Your players card
Treat it like a bank card. Set a PIN if your casino offers one, and report a lost card so nobody can spend your points or free play.
Keep a record
Note what you bring, what you spend and what you win each day. It helps with taxes, it shows you where the money went, and it makes it easier to stick to your limits.
